The Friendly Toast has been featured in the New York Times, Scout Magazine and Esquire. The latter even named the quirky diner among its "Best Breakfast Places in America." But the honors don't end there. The tasty New England breakfast spot has also scored big with Good Morning America and the Boston A List.
If you are yet to try out their innovative breakfast dishes, what's your excuse? The Friendly Toast first opened in Portsmouth, New Hampshire more than 20 years ago, but now has restaurants in Cambridge, Back Bay and Burlington, Massachusetts, as well as Burlington, Vermont.
Each location is known for its eclectic decor. The Back Bay spot features life-size Barbie dolls, bright colors, and a mix of donated items from their customers, including “wall hangings, table lamps, hanging lamps, and sugar holders’’ that have a “vintage, funky, eclectic, vibe.’’
The restaurants serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner "all day every day," and feature fully stocked bars with unique cocktail blends as exciting as their food - think martinis with pop rocks rims.
So what exactly is on the award-winning breakfast menu at The Friendly Toast? The massive selections run the gamut from basic choices like egg sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and combo platters to wacky combinations like the delightfully named Salmonchanted Morning - A grilled Coho salmon filet on a bed of sauteed spinach, roasted red peppers, olive garlic tapenade with two poached eggs, served with Hollandaise & scallions.
Perhaps the Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica Benny is more your style? It's made up of a medley of roasted butternut squash, carrots, parsnips, golden beets, potatoes, onion, asparagus, tomatoes, garlic, two poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce. Add steak tips for a meaty twist!
And then there are the sweet options, with a HUGE variety of pancake options, French toast, and the drool-worthy Caramel Apple Waffles topped with caramelized roasted apples & topped with crushed nuts.
Boston Magazine and the Boston A List agree, The Friendly Toast has "The Best Breakfast"!
