Red Sox rumors include Jonathan Lucroy and Wade Davis

Think the Boston Red Sox are going to make a deal before the deadline? Well, it seems possible now.

Yes, they made a lot of their deals earlier in the month. But for real, they might have one more left. After all, their name is coming up in trade rumors. So who are they looking at/who are they linked to? Kansas City Royals reliever Wade Davis and Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy. Both are probably long shots, but either guy would be a major upgrade to this team.

With Lucroy, the Red Sox are “in the mix” which means they are one of several teams interested in his services.

The Red Sox are in a weird position behind the plate with Sandy Leon and Ryan Hanigan in the big leagues while Christian Vazquez is in Triple-A and Blake Swihart is still on the Disabled List.

Hanigan has not done a great job this season, so it makes sense that the Red Sox might want someone to bolster their team for the last couple months of the season — especially a veteran.

Lucroy has hit .300 with 13 home runs and an .848 OPS while throwing out 40 percent of would-be base stealers. He also dabbles at first base.

The Red Sox “inquired”  about Davis which goes along with the theme of them needing bullpen help. But by Wade Davis standards, he’s been terrible this season — posting a 1.60 ERA in 35 games thus far. Still. that makes him one of the best closers, if not the absolute best, in baseball.

From the looks of it, the bullpen is really where the Red Sox could use the most help since there is not much they can do about their rotation.

Again, Davis would probably be an expensive rental. But the Red Sox seem to be serious about this whole winning in 2016 thing. It is the last time they will have David Ortiz, so there is that to play for as well.
