A New Pharmacy-Themed Candy Shop Just Opened In The North End

A pharmacy theme may seem like a strange concept for a candy shop...or is it actually kinda perfect?

Happy Pills is a colorful Barcelona-based, pharmacy-themed franchise with 27 stores in Japan, Manchuria, New Zealand, Greenland, Amsterdam, Paris, Seattle, Cape Town, Seville, Madrid - and now Boston!

Upon entering, you'll find rows and rows of plastic bins filled with colorful treats - 88 different varieties to be exact.

Choose containers resembling pill bottles ranging in size from the 75-milliliter “asymptomatic” to the 1,500-milliliter “chronic” and fill them with your favorite treats - or try something new!

Options include gummies, chocolates, hard candies, and more. You will also find a solid variety of sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan options.

Finish off the pharmacy effect by choosing from a variety of label designs or creating your own.

“We’re so excited to have our store open in Boston’s North End. I’ve been working with the team in Barcelona over the past 4 years to bring this location to life,” said Mike Pajolek, franchise owner and operator of Happy Pills Boston, in a press release. “We are here to serve the community and provide everyone with sweet remedies for daily pains.”

You can also order online. The website invites you to:

"Choose a bottle, candy flavors, a label (or create your own) and in a few seconds you'll have the perfect recipe to fight against stress, blue Mondays or boring Sundays, heartbreaks, hangovers, the inescapable bore…Or to celebrate that it is finally Friday, that someone loves you, that it is sunny or that you just feel like it."

Happy Pills Boston is located at 121 Salem St. and  open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

Prices range from $3 to $45, with bulk pricing less than $1 per ounce. More than 245 tons of candy sold. Head to the North End and get yours!
