Just say no to Anthony Davis for the Celtics

Everyone likes to dream. That’s one of the benefits of sleeping.

The Boston Celtics are one of the best teams in the NBA this season, so they are in good shape. And yet, the rumors keep coming in.

The big one that people keep hearing about is a potential deal to bring Anthony Davis to the beantown. If you’re in any Celtics groups, you’ll probably see Average Joe using ESPN’s awful trade machine to make up a ton of scenarios. Let’s be honest, it’s probably not going to happen.

The Celtics have something pretty good going here. Wanting to go out and grab another star just seems like such a knee-jerk reaction to losing Gordon Hayward. But hey, he’ll be back this season to do great things for the Celtics and they’ll be even better.

Consider this: Pelicans could make the playoffs this season. They’re a mediocre squad at 15-16. If the NBA season ended on December 20, they would be the No. 8 seed in the playoffs for the NBA’s Western Conference.

The C’s would have to give up a ton to get Davis. He is in the second year of a 5-year $127 million deal and the Celtics are giving max contracts to Hayward, Kyrie Irving and Al Horford already. That would be one way to suffocate the salary cap.

The asking price would be enormous too. The LA pick would probably go and either Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown. Wave goodbye to one of them if you want Davis.

Oh–and Davis has only ever played more than 70 games once in his previous five NBA seasons. So yeah, his health isn’t a plus–even if he is a good basketball player. Not ideal.

So if anyone asks you if the Celtics should get Anthony Davis, just yell “stranger danger!” and run away. Not worth the risk.
