Share
Vermont is known for its top-notch ski resorts and winter activities. Locals and visitors enjoy downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, tubing, and snowshoeing - just to name a few!
Snow lovers will certainly have a blast spending their winter vacation at the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, VT, but the spot is even more exciting for ice skaters.
Lake Morey features the longest skating trail in the entire United States! At 4.5-miles, the trail loops around the lake, leaving plenty of space for smaller skate rinks and pick-up hockey games.
The ice trail is perfect for skaters who enjoy the beauty and solitude of a winter hike, and the speed of a wide open frozen track.
With miles of smooth ice ahead, you can alternate between freeing bursts of speed and leisurely strides past Lake Morey's lovely homes, fishing shacks and snow-laden wilderness.
The Lake Morey resort rents Nordic skates, which are longer and more equipped to glide over uneven ice surfaces. You can also use poles to help with speed and balance, or simply tackle the trail on blades.
Nordic skating is quite popular in Europe and gaining favor with outdoor skaters in the US.
If you are a guest of the resort, your skate rentals are complimentary, but anyone can enjoy the fun and excitement of Morey Lake.
The resort skate shack is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and rents Nordic skates for $30 and hockey or figure skates for $10.
The skate season at Morey Lake typically begins in early January, and includes access to the ice trail as well as the outdoor skating and hockey rinks.
