It’s cold. It’s dreary. The days are short and the nights are long. It’s winter in Massachusetts. You can hole up at home with an electric blanket and a Netflix marathon, or you can take advantage of the best the season has to offer with one of these fabulous winter festivals.

From hot chocolate, craft beers and food trucks to ice skating, fire dancers and visits from Frosty the Snowman – you are sure to find something for every member of the family to enjoy.

Boston Winter (From January 6 on)

It may be too late to find the perfect gift at the Holiday Shopping Market, but the best of  Berkshire Bank’s Boston Winter is at its peak – the awesome 11,000 square foot custom designed outdoor ice skating path. From now until spring, Boston’s City Hall Plaza will also be abuzz with performers and winter-themed activities.

Greenfield Winter Carnival, Greenfield (February 3-5)

This three day event is going on its 95th year – a true winter tradition in Greenfield. The whole town pitches in to put on events and activities such as ice sculpture contests, fireworks, fire dancers, , a sleigh bell run, sledding and ice skating. Kids go crazy for the opportunity to have breakfast with Frosty the Snowman!

North Adams WinterFest, North Adams (February 18, 19)

Enjoy a delicious mug of hot chocolate as you cruise North Adams by horse drawn carriage. Ice sculptors will be demonstrating their art and technique while children enjoy skating. Still chilly? Sample the best clam chowders during the chowder cook off or toast a marshmallow around the community bonfire. You can even do a little shopping at the winter farmer’s market and craft fair.

 

Lowell Winterfest, Lowell (February 24-25)

With plenty of music, fire dancers, craft beer and the best food trucks from around the state, adults won’t mind that the Lowell Winterfest is really all about the kids. Games, snow and ice competitions, outdoor amusement rides and an all-you-can-eat chocolate festival, it’s a children’s paradise! Be sure to burn off a few calories with some free ice skating with the whole family.

Winter Festival, Attleboro (February 25)

Attleboro’s one night winter fest event offers a free hayride, trackless train, fire jugglers and ice sculptors. Live music will be pumping from City Hall and the Attleboro Fire Department will create a massive bonfire for toasting marshmallows and battling the winter chill.
