Things To Do At Lake Winnipesaukee

There is never a lack of fun activities near Lake Winnipesaukee or "Lake Winni" to us New Englanders. It is the largest lake in New Hampshire at approximately 21 miles long and 1 to 9 miles wide. But it’s more than just a big lake. One popular interpretation of the name is "The Smile of the Great Spirit.” There is a lot to make you smile around this incredible lake.

Weirs Beach

Weirs Beach is Lake Winnipesaukee's most popular beach. This family-friendly beach includes a boardwalk with views of the lake and mountains. You will find restaurants, snacks, mini-golf, bumper cars, arcades, gifts, cruises, train rides, and firework shows throughout the summer.

Dinner Cruise

Take a cruise on the M/S Mount Washington, one of the most beautiful scenic cruises in New England. Breakfast, lunch, a gift shop, and a lounge are available onboard. Dinner Dance Cruises include buffet dinner and live music.

Shopping at Mill Falls

Mill Falls Marketplace, in Meredith, is a unique shopping and dining experience with views of Lake Winnipesaukee. There are 11 shops, 5 restaurants, brick walkways, flower gardens, and a 40' waterfall.

Adventure Park

For those who enjoy a bit of adventure, there’s Gunstock Mountain Adventure Course in Gilford. It is New England's largest ropes, aerial, and zip line course. It has 91 challenges, 5 levels of adult courses, and an explorer course for kids.

Fishing

Lake Winnipesaukee is known for being a great fishing spot, whether you’re an expert or a novice. You can catch bass, trout, sunfish, perch, salmon, and pickerel among many other species of fish. You will need a New Hampshire fishing license unless you are fishing from a licensed charter or party boat, which sounds like more fun to me! There’s also a variety of fishing derby’s throughout the year, including the Winni Derby in May.

This is just a sampling of activities that you can do around the lake. There’s also go-karts, bike trails, and of course the infamous Laconia Bike Week in June. Only a couple hours from Boston, Lake Winni, is the perfect weekend getaway. Don’t forget to pack your Lake Livin’ apparel in your bag!
