The Best Spots In Maine For Some Quality Time With Your Canine

Maine’s natural beauty provides the perfect backdrop for dogs to explore nature, but if you’re in the mood to make a day of it, here are some perfect spots to eat, play and enjoy a treat with your furry BFF!

For Fun:

If you’re looking for a day of fun and fresh air with your pup, visiting the dog park is a must. You can’t go wrong with Quarry Run Dog Park in Portland. It’s 7 acres of fully fenced romping space for your buddy. There is a separate small dog area within the park as well. If socializing with his own kind isn’t your pup’s scene, the two of you can enjoy the walking trails in the area instead.

For a true taste of Maine climb aboard the Captain Jack Lobster Boat Adventure. You and your dog can set sail together as you experience a day in the life of a lobsterman. The catch of the day may even include a few sea urchins or starfish for your pup to play with.

For Food:

After you work up an appetite, you’ll need to find a restaurant where dogs are welcome. Luckily, in Maine, that’s no problem! The Jack Russell Steakhouse & Brewery in Bar Harbor is the place to go for delicious seafood and the choicest cuts of beef. And with a name like Jack Russell, you know it’s dog-friendly.

The Portland Lobster Company is located right on the gorgeous waterfront with views of the ocean and the boats. Their spacious patio bar features live music and was voted the best outdoor bar of 2016. Pups are welcome to relax on the dock with you as you enjoy one of their award winning lobster rolls.

For A Treat:

No fun-filled day of bonding is complete without an after dinner treat. Swing in to the Rollover Cafe in Wells for an iced coffee and a fresh pastry for yourself and an all-natural homemade dog treat for your pooch.

The Pet Pantry in Freeport caters to dogs, cats and the people who love them. Get your pup a treat from the bakery and pick out a boutique style gift for yourself.

If you’re in the Damariscotta area, check out the delightful Maine Coast Book Shop. Enjoy a beverage from the cafe as you peruse the rows of books with your leashed dog. Water dishes are provided for canine guests and you may be able to procure a treat or two from the pup-loving clerks and baristas.
