The cozy island village of Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard will begin its 37th annual Christmas in Edgartown celebration on December 6. The long weekend will include a parade, caroling, shopping events, and colorful lights throughout the town, including the historic Edgartown lighthouse.
Best of all, most events are free, and those that aren't benefit island-wide charities and non-profits.
Make your way to Martha’s Vineyard on one of Hy-Line Cruises special ferries, running additional trips from the mainland to the island to acommodate the popular event.
Full days of events for the whole family are scheduled for Thursday the 6th, Friday the 7th, and Saturday the 8th. The celebration culminates Sunday afternoon with brunch, a 5k run, caroling, photos with Santa, an art sale and a reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.
The highlight of the weekend is the Lighthouse Lighting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7. It's Edgartown's nautical answer to the average town tree lighting.
Prior to the big event, a vintage Volkswagen photobus will be available for photos with Santa, who will arrive in true island fashion on the Chappy ferry. There will also be face painting, hot cocoa and snacks.
Other highlights from the nearly 100 events include the Annual Great Chowder Contest, the Arts & Crafts Festival, and the beloved Christmas parade, which starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The 2018 Christmas in Edgartown celebration is expected to raise about $50,000 for Island charities. Visit edgartownboardoftrade.com for a full calendar of events!
