This Festival Of Trees In Wellesley Is A Cozy Way To Welcome The Holiday Season
Share
The 2020 holiday season will go down in history as one of the strangest and most frightening in history. For those who feel safe and healthy enough to venture out, some of Massachusetts' beloved events will still be available - with a few modifications, of course.
One of these events is the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s 12th annual Festival of Trees in Wellesley. Your first opportunity to walk among the dozens of beautifully-trimmed trees will be Black Friday, November 27, 2020. The event runs through December 20.
The Festival of Trees takes place at the Society’s headquarters at The Gardens at Elm Bank, a 36-acre property featuring both traditional and modern gardening styles.
Most of the displays will be housed in the Hunnewell Building. Since the event is mostly indoors, guests will be admitted in small, timed-entry groups and must wear masks as well as adhere to social distancing standards.
Be sure to enter the raffle to be drawn on the last night of the event - you could win your favorite tree to take home!
The meticulously decorated trees vary in size from one foot to nine feet in height and some have gifts in addition to the decorations. All are donated by local businesses, garden clubs, and other organizations as well as individuals.
In addition to the colorful trees, the famous Snow Village with a complex array of model trains will also be back for the 2020 season. The village takes up an entire room and is sure to delight the senses of kids from one to 92!
The trains wind their way through villages and vignettes, including "Christmas in the City (Boston of course!), Fenway Park, a Dickensian village, the North Pole and hundreds of decorated houses and lights," according to the Horticultural Society's website.
If you look closely at the displays you'll spot several Santas, miniature shoppers, and ice skaters creating their own tiny, perfect winter wonderland.
Outside, you'll find more decorations as well as fire pits where visitors can warm up, sip hot chocolate, and toast marshmallows for S’mores.
The Massachusetts Horticultural Society is located at 900 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA 02482, but those who feel safer at home can still enjoy the event via a virtual session.
