Think you've taken every tour of the city and learned all there is to know about Boston's history? Think again!

The folks at Boston By Foot specialize in providing complete, unvarnished tours of some of the Back Bay's lesser-known sites. They have been focusing on the good, the bad, and the ugly historical aspects that shaped Boston for more than 40 years!

According to their website:

"Each Boston By Foot tour is designed to help you experience the city in new ways - you’ll see historic landmarks, explore a diverse collection of neighborhoods, discuss facts and misconceptions, and learn new insights on the influences, characters and preservation efforts shaping the city."

Perhaps the most fascinating of the group's nine classic tours is The Dark Side of Boston, which explores some of the more frightening factual events in the city's history.

The tour leads you down the streets and alleys of the North End as you learn the dirty details of Boston's checkered past.

Your guide will lead you on "a walk through misery, misfortune, malevolence and murder" based on real historical events like the Great Molasses Flood of 1919, the infamous Brink's Robbery, and the Boston Massacre.

You will also learn of the scourges of smallpox and the Great Influenza, body snatchers, and the dangers of Richmond Street.

Insider tip: take one of the evening tours to add to the spooky atmosphere!
