Entrepreneurs Ship Fall Foliage To Displaced New Englanders

Kyle and Jessica Waring are New England natives who became inspired to launch their company, Ship Foliage after living abroad for 2 years. They found that like many displaced New Englanders, the changing seasons were what they missed the most.

They decided to create a start-up that catered to all the folks living in places like Florida, Texas and Arizona who never get to experience the lush beauty of a New England Autumn. The Warings’ products are centered around maple leaves and maple products. They collect “Grade A and “Grade B” maple leaves from across New England including Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Only the finest leaves are chosen based on color, size and texture. They are then subjected to a preservation process in which they are dried and sealed in resin. The result is a perfectly preserved authentic piece of New England that will hold its gorgeous color for years to come.

Ship Foliage products certainly come at a premium – A single Grade A leaf is $9.99, three maple leaves will run you $19.99 and a 5 leaf spread is $29.99. Aside from their leaf bouquets, the Warings also offer unique gifts including mini maple leaf earrings and necklaces, maple leaf coasters and Christmas ornaments. The Fall Gift Box includes three leaves, a 3.4 ounce bottle of Authentic Vermont maple syrup and a piece of Vermont maple candy.

The maple leaf business is actually an extension of the Warings’ first endeavor, Ship Snow, Yo which – you guessed it – packs and ships Styrofoam containers of fresh New England snow to warmer locales. The snow business is currently on hold for obvious reasons, but come December, displaced snow bunnies the world over can choose from three icy options:

The Box o’ Snow starts at $119 and includes 12 – 14 pounds of fresh powder; the Snowman in a Box package comes complete with carrot nose and coal eyes, starting at $129; and the Blizzard in a Box is perfect for an epic snowball fight at a price tag of $199 plus.

Ship Foliage’s products are thoughtful gift options for former New Englanders mourning the loss of the seasons, or lovely keepsakes for proud locals.
