Try A Traditional New England Popover At This Amherst Hotspot

When you think of Amherst, Massachusetts, you probably picture UMASS football or gorgeous mountain scenes.

The city is also home to a quaint restaurant nestled among the Berkshires and they just so happen to serve one of New England's favorite traditional dishes - the Popover.

Judie’s Restaurant has been a historic Amherst institution since 1977. The website notes that the famous Judie "runs her restaurant as if holding a dinner party at her house, inviting her guests to explore combinations of flavors for which she has a passion."

Among the menu items, you'll find burgers, pasta, Asian-inspired dishes, even steak and lobster, but Judie's is best known for their signature popovers - a traditional New England bread, creatively filled with sweet and savory ingredients, made into overstuffed sandwiches, or served alongside homemade soups, stews and sautés.

Popovers are huge, fluffy rolls made from a traditional recipe of egg batter. They're baked in either a muffin pan or a special popover pan which they "pop" out of during baking to create a unique, air-filled shape.

Enjoy a fresh bowl of soup with a signature popover on the side, served with apple butter.

For a savory treat, enjoy the Grilled Chicken Popover Club with grilled chicken breast, sliced tomatoes, bacon strips, and melted cheddar cheese served in a half popover with house sharp cheddar cheese sauce.

The Beef Tip Popover consists of an entire large popover roll with tips of beef shoulder, caramelized onions, corn, peas, tomatoes and roasted garlic mascarpone mashed potatoes in a Madeira mushroom sauce.

Additional options include the hearty Turkey "Pop" Pie and the southern-inspired Gumbo Popover with chicken, chorizo sausage, and shrimp.

Pair your choice with a signature cocktail, sparkling Prosecco, or one of Judie's hand-picked wines from across the world.

And don't forget to top it all off with one of Judie's daily fresh fruit pies, decadent chocolate creations, Bananas Foster, or gluten-free bundt cakes.

If you're heading into the Berkshires, be sure to make Judie's a must-visit spot on your itinerary!
