Chowdaheadz is beyond excited to be the presenting sponsor of the 2018 Rally for the Jimmy Fund campaign, a Jimmy Fund fundraiser created for Red Sox fans to build camaraderie in workplaces and schools while supporting patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The campaign launched with a special kick-off event at Dana-Farber on February 6, where more than 70 Rally team captains and participants networked and learned about the impact of fundraising from Dana-Farber pediatric oncologist Dr. Mimi Bandopadhayay.
Rally for the Jimmy Fund presented by Chowdaheadz celebrates the decades-long partnership of the Jimmy Fund and Red Sox and encourages Red Sox fans to start a Rally team by partnering with their workplaces and schools, and encouraging co-workers, classmates, and friends to contribute $10 or more to the Jimmy Fund. In exchange, participants can wear Red Sox gear to work or school on Fenway Opening Day, Thursday, April 5, when the Red Sox play the Tampa Bay Rays. Three of the top fundraising schools and companies will receive special visits from Red Sox players this season as a prize. Teams can use the hashtag #RallyForTheJimmyFund on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to post photos and updates leading up to Opening Day.
Jane Gunzelmann, 5, of Georgetown is this year’s patient partner for Rally for the Jimmy Fund. Jane was diagnosed in February with neuroblastoma, a very rare type of cancerous tumor that almost always affects children. She is the daughter of Katie and John and has a younger sister, Paige. Jane loves science, digging for rocks, gemstones and shells. She loves dinosaurs, animals, the ocean and of course crafts. When she grows up she would like to be a paleontologist and a geologist. As the patient partner, Jane and her family spoke at the Rally for the Jimmy Fund kick-off and will be featured in Jimmy Fund social media posts to publicize this year’s Rally for the Jimmy Fund campaign.
“Rally for the Jimmy Fund is a simple and spirited way for Red Sox Nation to celebrate Opening Day at Fenway Park by wearing Red Sox gear to work or school,” said Larry Lucchino, Chairman of the Jimmy Fund and President/CEO Emeritus of the Red Sox. “This is a special opportunity for Red Sox
fans to help the Jimmy Fund conquer cancer while also supporting their favorite baseball team.”
Since 2006, Rally for the Jimmy Fund has raised more than $6 million. This year’s program aims to raise more than $750,000. To register and start a Rally team or to contribute individually, please visit www.rallyforthejimmyfund.org
