After seeing the devastation caused by Hurricanes in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, Chowdaheadz decided we needed to do something to help. Mother nature is a cruel cruel beast, and when she comes for your area there is nothing that you can do. Luckily the world is full of a lot of great people that have been doing their part to help out those in need. Some people lost everything that they own and no longer have dry clothes that they can wear.
Here at Chowdaheadz we decided to put together a promotion to donate some t-shirts to those in need. For every T-shirt that was sold in the month of September we donated a blank T-shirt to those in need in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico.
We are wicked happy to announce that we were able to donate 3600 t-shirts to people in need. Here is more info on the charities we chose:
Pearland Neighborhood Center – Texas
Houston and surrounding Texas neighborhoods were hit by Hurricane Harvey in late August. Many residents lost everything they owned. We sent a total of 576 T-Shirts to Pearland Neighborhood Center in Pearland, Texas. The PNC, in partnership with various agencies, provides numerous services to the community including: Information & Referral Services, Food & Baby Pantry, Bread Pantry, Santa’s Helpers, Medical & Prescription Assistance (school-aged kids), School Supplies Vouchers, Continuing Education Scholarships, Senior Employment Program, English as a Second Language, Emergency Assistance, Pearland Forum, Share Your Holidays, Disaster Relief, School Clothing Vouchers, GED Scholarships, Utility Assistance, Spanish as a Second Language, Basic Living Skills Course and Job Training Classes, including Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and Nurses Aid Certification.
Lighthouse Ministries – Central Florida
Central Florida was hit by Hurricane Irma in early September and the devastation was widespread. We sent a total of 1800 T-Shirts to Lighthouse Ministries in Lakeland, Florida. Lighthouse Ministries is celebrating over 40 years of working in Central Florida with the poor and at risk population. Lighthouse offers our Men’s Gospel Rescue Mission, residential programs for men and women, community preschool, outreach in our community with assistance of clothing, food boxes and household items and hurricane relief through partnerships with schools and churches.
In 2016, their services provided include:
230,072 total meals served
26,946 nights of lodging
115 faith decisions
3,752 food boxes provided
4,858 families helped
37,856 residential employment training paid hours worked
United for Puerto Rico – Puerto Rico
Hurricane Maria decimated Puerto Rico and left the entire island impacted in some way. Though we were not able to get physical t-shirts shipped to Puerto Rico, we thought it was still very important to include them in our donation efforts. We donated the cash equivalent of 1224 t-shirts to United for Puerto Rico, an initiative brought forth by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló, in collaboration with the private sector, with the purpose of providing aid and support to those affected in Puerto Rico by the passage of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane María. 100% of the proceeds will go to helping the victims affected by these natural disasters in Puerto Rico.
