Growing up on the South Shore of Massachusetts, my family spent a good deal of time on Cape Cod. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I finally took a road trip to the gorgeous seaside village of Camden, Maine – and instantly fell in love!

Perhaps what makes Camden so magical as opposed to other oceanfront communities is the fact that it showcases a little bit of everything that makes Maine so mesmerizing.

Sure, you have the gorgeous deep blue harbor dotted with sailboats, but you also have nearby mountains, hiking trails and lush forests to explore!

The beauty of Camden earned it the nickname, “The Jewel of the Coast.” Famous Hollywood films such as Carousel, Peyton Place and In The Bedroom have chosen Camden for their lovely New England backdrops.

Only 4,850 people call Camden home year-round, but that number explodes with tourists in the summer, lured by the quiet steeple-dotted village with its narrow streets, tiny eclectic shops and seaside restaurants.

Camden is also home to one of the loveliest classic New England lighthouses along the Maine coast.

You don’t have to be a surfer or a sailor to enjoy outdoor adventures in Camden. Many people come for the hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and camping.
