Boston Voted The Nation's Number One Summer Vacation Spot

Massachusetts may not be an ideal place to visit in winter, but according to U.S. News & World Report, the city of Boston is the number one spot in the country for a summer vacation!

The magazine’s picks for best summer vacation destinations in the United States are based on factors including "affordability, weather and variety of things to do plus traveler and expert sentiment."

“We believe this unbiased approach makes our rankings more useful than simply providing our editors’ personal opinions,’’ the website states.

Boston scored the title of top summer vacation destination in the country for its mild temperatures, wonderful selection of restaurants and breweries, summer festivals, and of course, historic Fenway Park!

U.S. News & World Report writes:

“Fenway Park welcomes baseball lovers, the Freedom Trail invites history buffs to a scavenger hunt of historic sites, and Little Italy and Faneuil Hall Marketplace beckon to foodies. Visitors can also check out numerous breweries or plan their vacation around one of several festivals held over the summer.’’

Several additional New England hotspots also ranked highly on the magazine's list of Best Summer Vacations in the USA. Portland, Maine came in at #6, Bar Harbor, ME at #8, Cape Cod took the eleventh slot, and Newport, Rhode Island scored #15.

Boston also ranked third on the list of best summer vacation destinations in the entire world and fifth for best family summer vacations
