Red Sox busy on Tuesday

Getting stuff done, the Red Sox way.

What a day it was. Honestly — it just felt like any other Tuesday and then BAM!!! The Sox were making moves.  Let’s go in order of significance:

Chris Sale. OK, the guy is a five time All-Star who has been in Cy Young consideration in each of the past five seasons. Sure, he cost a lot, but what do you expect for one of the best pitchers in the game. Oh, and now the Red Sox have six starting pitchers who have been an All-Star at least once. Yeah. This rotation is stacked — even if Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech, among others are gone. Just don’t stop thinking about tomorrow. Yesterday’s gone and all that.

Yeah. This rotation is stacked — even if Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech, among others are gone. Who is going to complain about established big league talent as good as Sale coming to Boston? Cricket noise.

Tyler Thornburg. 2.15 ERA last year. That’s the setup man the Sox were looking for. So yeah, say goodbye to Koji Uerhara, Brad Ziegler and Junichi Tazawa. No need to re-sign any of those guys now. And yeah, they sold high on Travis Shaw here. He hit about .200 from June onward. Seeing how he didn’t hit well in Triple-A in 2015, going to go ahead and say the Sox made the right move. No spot for Mauricio Dubon and Josh Pennington was only in Short-Season A ball. Totally worth it.

Mitch Moreland. This one if confusing. It pretty much says: the Red Sox are gonna pay Hanley Ramirez $22 mil to DH and Pablo Sandoval is without a doubt their starting third baseman next season. Great defensive first baseman with pop against righties. Just was thinking the Sox would go with some more versatility. Oh well…
