Red Sox are the Best Hitting Team in Baseball

.293 batting average, .354 on-base percentage, .480 slugging percentage and .834 OPS. Who is this guy? He seems like the kind of hitter the Red Sox could use. Well, he is the Red Sox — that’s their team hitting stats so far this season.
Yeah, sorry Toronto, the Red Sox are the top hitting team in the AL East this season. All those stats are the best in baseball except their on-base percentage which is still the best in the American League. Think about that: pitching might win ballgames according to some cliche. But the Red Sox are 21-13 and their ERA ranks 19th among 30 big league clubs. That’s not pitching winning ballgames, that’s pitching keeping their team in games so that the offense can carry them to victory.
As the Red Sox swept the Oakland Athletics, they scored 40 runs in three games. And Sonny Gray pitched one of those games. The Sox chased Gray out of a game on the fourth inning and tagged him for seven runs. Gray found out the hard way that Boston definitely isn’t a Nashville party, to paraphrase Miley Cyrus.
Remember too, the Red Sox have the best lineup, statistically, including the bats of catchers Christian Vazquez and Ryan Hanigan — who are in the lineup for their defense — not their bats.
It looked like the Red Sox had a potential MVP candidate in their outfield before the season started. Those who thought that were right: it’s just not the guy they were expecting. Jackie Bradley Jr. has been one of the game’s most feared hitters as of late and his stats are pretty much better than Mike Trout’s. But remember now, Bradley’s known for his defense. Not to say Bradley can definitely keep this up, but it’s worth noting.
The way the Sox are hitting, it definitely wouldn’t be a long shot for them to take the AL East.
Little known fact: Katy Perry originally wrote that song, so here’s her version.
