Plan A Day Of Food & Fun With Fido In Vermont

Vermont is famous for its covered bridges, spectacular fall foliage, and of course, maple syrup. What you may not know is that it is also a fabulous place to visit with your dog. Here are some fun-filled activities and eateries to check out during your next Vermont doggy date.

For Fun:

Dog Mountain is THE place to be if you are a canine in the Saint Johnsbury area. This 150 acre converted farm offers hiking trails, swimming ponds, an art gallery and a breathtaking Dog Chapel – the only one of its kind known to exist. The chapel is a place to quietly reflect on pets that have passed on, while the art gallery is a colorful, upbeat spot featuring canine inspired paintings and sculptures.

The famous Smugglers Notch State Park offers some of the finest hiking trails to explore with your pooch. The views are breathtaking and you are sure to stumble upon tranquil streams and natural waterfalls. Dogs are always welcome as long as they are leashed.

For Food:

All that hiking and playing is sure to build up an appetite for both of you. Thankfully Vermont has several dog-friendly dining options. The Lake House Pub & Grille in Castleton offers traditional American fare like burgers, dogs and sandwiches with fabulous views of Bomoseen Lake. A Doggy Menu is available for canine diners on the outside deck.

Sweetwaters in Burlington is a European bistro style restaurant that welcomes dogs at their outdoor seating area. Aside from a mouth-watering menu of upscale dishes, Sweetwaters also gives back to their community by hosting events for various charities.

For A Treat:

Before you call it a day, be sure to top things off with a treat. The Burlington Bay Market & Cafe is a unique place indeed. They serve incredible breakfast sandwiches, ice cream treats – including the famous Vermont Maple Creemee – and of course, Doggy Ice Cream. While you’re there you can also stock up on beer and liquor, they have a full liquor outlet onsite.

It just wouldn’t be a day in Vermont without Ben & Jerry’s. Dogs are welcome at the flagship Scoop Shop located at the famous factory in Waterbury. Although the famous friends are yet to release a line of gourmet Doggy Ice Cream, a few licks of your vanilla cone won’t hurt. Just remember that chocolate is a no no!
