Matt Beleskey placed on waivers

Matt Beleskey placed on waivers

Have you ever been in one of those positions where things just weren’t working out?

Maybe it was a bad relationship, being bored out of your mind at a liberal arts school or even a job. Yeah, let’s use the job example with the Boston Bruins.

On Thursday, it was announced that the team had placed Matt Beleskey on waivers. He has two more years left on his contract which means a $3.8 million cap hit for the Bruins, based off of his contract. But…it was absolutely time for the two sides to move on.

In 14 games this season, he did not have any points and over the last two seasons, he has mustered just three goals and a minus 18 plus/minus rating on the ice. That’s not exactly what you want from a guy when you’re technically a playoff contender. He averaged 10:51 of ice time per game this season which was a major step back from what he had done in the past with the B’s: about 4 minutes less than in previous seasons.

It’s also worth noting that in his first season with the Bruins, he was actually productive. He had 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists) in 80 games

But yeah, if the Bruins are trying to win, it’s probably a good thing that they gutted this guy from their roster. Can’t afford to have guys who aren’t doing anything. And since the Bruins don’t have the best offense going anyways, it wouldn’t hurt to give someone else a chance. Maybe there’s a guy who wouldn’t give the B’s a -25 rating in a full season.

This also has to remind you of the Jimmy Hayes disaster Boston endured last season. At least here, Beleskey isn’t from Boston–so it’s not as disappointing since it’s not a hometown failure.
