David Ortiz getting his own reality TV miniseries

Do you like Keeping up with the Kardashians? No? Me neither.

But the good news is there’s a reality TV show that might not be too bad. That’s because Fusion TV is going to be airing a 10-minute miniseries called “Big Papi Needs a Job” starting next month with the first episode set to air on January 31.

MLB.com sums it up pretty well. Ortiz wants to try out a bunch of different jobs to give him something to do because he didn’t really do anything last year.

Some of the jobs Ortiz is going to try are: stadium tour guide, dog groomer, manicurist and musician, to name a few.

Seriously though, this is a pretty interesting concept. Ortiz is a charismatic guy, so it definitely could be interesting. I’ll watch it for sure. I’ll just need to figure out what channel Fusion is and if I don’t have it, I’ll see if I can cancel CSPAN and get that channel instead.

The naysayers have a good reason to criticize it though since it’s actually a rip-off of The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. The difference here is Ortiz isn’t just some rich socialite who had everything handed to him his whole life. He worked hard to get out of the DR and become a millionaire and one of the best hitters in Red Sox history. That takes skill.

As for what other jobs David Ortiz should try, the list is very long, but mall cop probably tops the list.

If we’re being serious though, it would be interesting to see Ortiz on the Red Sox broadcast team here and there in some capacity--especially because he is bilingual. He could contribute to the English and Spanish versions of the broadcast and be entertaining for the English speakers y los Hispanohablantes también.

Ortiz kind of kept his distance from the Red Sox last season, so it will be interesting to see if he comes back around more often in 2018.
