Send Meals To First Responders At This Acton Cafe
Share
On March 29, the staff at the Blackbird Cafe in Acton delivered a fresh, hot breakfast to Emerson Hospital's Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit.
The lovely gesture is part of the restaurant's mission to give back to our heroic first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cute, eclectic cafe is a favorite area breakfast spot owned and operated by local couple, Katie and Luke Kenney. The Acton spot was so successful that they opened two other cafes in Burlington and Groton.
While the Burlington restaurant is currently closed, Acton and Groton are still serving their communities with curbside takeout. But the flagship Acton store has taken their dedication to the community a step further by introducing their Meals For Frontline Workers Program.
According to the Blackbird website:
Blackbird Cafe has been working behind the scenes with our beloved Emerson Hospital in partnership with Toast Tab to bring to life a tool that allows you to purchase Meals for Frontline Workers through our website. Feed the frontline, and keep our kitchens cooking!
Members of our community may purchase and donate a meal, or a group of meals, for the ER Department at Emerson Hospital. We are grateful to support the Emerson Hospital Staff who are working tirelessly during this difficult time to take care of our community.
It is beautiful watching our community come together to support one another. Our customers have been so generous this week sending food to The Frontline! Join us - get involved in providing Meals for Frontline Workers.
Much Love,
Katie & Luke
So far the program has been wildly successful, with community members joining in the giving spirit. Here's how it works:
- Click the Meals For Fronline Workers button at the top of the website's homepage.
- Select the items you would like to donate including hot or iced coffee and up to 100 freshly prepared meals.
- Finally, choose whether you would like your donated meals sent to Emerson Hospital, Lahey Hospital, or local police and firefighters.
Meals include hearty breakfast burritos, healthy wrap sandwiches, juice, and cookies.
